Laparoskopisk fjerning av galleblæren er et etablert behandlingstilbud i Norge. Vanligvis er dette et sikkert behandlingstilbud til pasientene. Imidlertid får Rikshospitalet jevnlig henvist pasienter med gallegangsskader etter slike operasjoner. Resultatet av en livskvalitetsstudie viser at cirka halvparten av pasientene rapporterer betydelig redusert livskvalitet etter operasjonen.
