Parents who unexpectedly have a child with Down’s syndrome can interact with the child in a more constructive way when healthcare personnel talk to them in a positive manner immediately following the birth.
En tverrfaglig gruppe helsearbeidere har laget brosjyrer som skal supplere informasjon til gravide og sped- og småbarnsforeldre. Målet er at også helsepersonell kan bruke dem.
En vårdag i 2020 fikk plutselig ikke sykepleier Bente Sandal Olsen og hennes kollegaer lenger lov til å dra hjem til bitte små babyer med sonder i nesa. Da måtte de tenke nytt.
Når helsesykepleiere skal avdekke hvilke barn som har behov for oppfølging av logoped, må de legge vekt på gjentakelser, blokkeringer og forlengelser i barns tale.
Nyfødte fødes med komplikasjoner, barn har diabetes og nyresvikt, er multihandikappede eller har stikkevegring. – Vi er gode på voksenbehandling, men sykepleie til barn er noe helt annet, sier Elisabeth Figenschou.
– Jeg har det artig, interessant og utfordrende på jobb. Alt som skal til for å ha en fin arbeidshverdag, sier Magne Roar Kvavik på barneavdelingen ved Nordlandsykehuset i Bodø.
Kristine Lindhøy valgte en uvanlig måte å få blest om organdonasjon på: Hun skrev krimbok.
Et meslingutbrudd har ført til at et fylke nord for New York forbyr barn som ikke er vaksinert, å oppholde seg på offentlige steder.
– Det var en egen verden, med et eget språk. Nyfødte har jo ingen ord, forteller Ellen Honne. Hun er en av sykepleierne som forteller hva de husker best fra praksistiden.
